"The Penambang of Sarawak River" by The Torque

Penambang - small boat used by the Kuching locals to commute from the riverbanks of their village to the city centre's Waterfront.

Generally used by the villagers on the northern banks of the Sarawak River (where localities are mainly Malays and the pri-bumis), the penambangs are unique attraction to the tourists. Not only it is a cheap means of transportation but it is fairly safe, convenient and very efficient.

The Astana

Crossing the Sarawak River is a routine by many citizens of Kuching and this will happen from dawn till late evening....which means the service of these small boats will always be there until there is posibbly no more activity in the city.

"Reflections" by The Torque

I was on my way to have a look at Ted's workx (Read: Excelent works!) in the much awaited PM's exhibition last night.
Cold & rainy night it was....but camaraderie is something that have been built within me since my teenage years thus why I took the railride with Rahman Roslan and off we go to Annex Building, CM.

On the way, Rahman coached me to compose for this two shots.....

"The Minaret" & "Whirlwind" by Ezuddin

The Minaret
The minaret of the Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque is seen in Johor Bahru, Johor 370km south of Kuala Lumpur Dec 22, 2007. Standing majestically on a hilltop overlooking the Tebrau Straits and said to be one of the most beautiful mosques in Malaysia. The architecture of the mosque was largely based on Moorish styles along with some Islamic Malay influence.

A Whirlwind Adventure

Sun ray, smoke and darkness in harmony by The Torque

Sunray and smoke
A man walks pass a golden citizen's satay stall and the golden sun ray
as he enters the maze of Chow Kit bazaar, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

One of the thing that I learn over the years is sometimes even professionals have conflicting views & preferences over a piece of effort. As an amateur newbie in this particular area I educated myself to listen and accept all views and input. They are the professionals and their feedbacks are precious for amateurs like me to improve and fuel the direction of my future.
As a trained professional (in the field work I am in) I disciplined myself to evaluate and analyze every given views and comments, then deduce my own conclusion. I am the master of my artwork and it is up to me to be myself and yet be able to produce something worthy to be commented by those who care to lend their eyes to my works.

Whatever it is, in the end, when I am not around it is rewarding enough if somebody look at the pieces of photos that I may have left in this world and say - "Hey! That's style of composition is Torque's".

Somewhere...

Assalamualaikum..
Hello Ayamers..this is my firts post in here. Thanks to Mr. The Torque for inviting me join this community. And to the other Ayamers, salam perkenalan.

Surrounding by the Japanese environment, everyday write, read, communicates, hear bla bla with Kanji's, Hiragana's, Katakana's and all the 'belit-belit'Japanese characters..make my English getting worst and worst day by day. Living in the Japanese Kampung, there is no chances for me practising my English with kampung people. Please forgive me for my poor English, and hoping you guys would help me improving my English by using this platform.

Above picture was taken on last spring season at Yunotsu Fishery Port. Nothing much special in here..but, in Jun 2007, they became to be a special place when their name was listed in the Unesco World Herritage Centre.

The Penambang

The Penambang boat
"Penambang" - small boat used by the Kuching locals to commute from the riverbanks of their village to the city centre's Waterfront.

This shot was done on my D70s on cloudy WB, ISO400 @ 1/320 f/5.6. Taking into account some details - the direction of the wind, waves and reflection on the water, the ripples and position of the main subject in the frame.

Probably one of my best shot ever done so far...more to come insyaAllah...

Go ahead...kasi "panggang"!
